L’effimero e l’eterno.

The Ephemeral and the Eternal. Vacheron Constantin’s Concept of Time Engages in Dialogue with Simone Crestani’s Glass
The intersection between the fragility of blown glass and the millimeter-precise rigor of haute horlogerie is a suspended and unexpected realm that transforms matter into pure vision, guided solely by the precision of the gesture. Driven by this affinity, the Vacheron Constantin boutique in Rome will be transformed from September 29 to October 31 to host Simone Crestani’s solo exhibition. Through the works of the sculptor who has revolutionized the use of transparent glass, the space at Via dei Condotti 29 celebrates a profound reflection on the art of craftsmanship and the passing down of the secrets of the trade today.
On display is a collection of twelve works in which the Venetian artist challenges the medium—glass—by capturing light and rendering it in suspended forms inspired by the natural world. A sculpture of emptiness and balance, where the perception of volume varies with the changing angle of observation.
The exhibition in Rome represents the natural evolution of a collaboration that officially began in Venice during Homo Faber, when the Métiers d’Art “Tribute to the Animal Kingdom – Glassoctopus” timepiece was unveiled—an experiment in microsculpture applied to watchmaking. By scaling down his work to miniature dimensions, Crestani sculpted a transparent glass octopus directly onto the dial—at once invisible and present—complete with tentacles and suction cups.

The initiative is part of the One of Not Many Crafts Program, a project through which the Geneva-based manufacturer—in continuous operation since 1755—brings together its in-house master artisans (engravers, guillocheurs, enamelers, and gem setters) with leading figures from different creative fields. Crestani is one of six masters selected internationally to expand the scope of the Métiers d’Art.
“With the opening of our Rome boutique last year, we launched a series of initiatives involving artists from various disciplines. With Simone Crestani, we are continuing on this path, which allows us to offer our clients exclusive experiences and to foster a dialogue between our creations, art, and artisanal mastery.”
