Fine Jewelry and Social Empowerment with the Bvlgari Foundation. The New CFP Nathan Opens in Rome
A construction project lasting just five months to restore an icon of 1960s modernist architecture—designed by Luigi Moretti on Via Vincenzo Ugo Taby—to the community and transform it into Rome’s most advanced educational and social center. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renovated “Ernesto Nathan” Vocational Training Center took place in the heart of the 9th Municipality.
As part of the broader “Public Vocational Training Hub,” the project was launched to combat school dropout rates in Rome’s suburbs, aiming to resolve an increasingly evident paradox: the strong global demand for high-end Italian jewelry contrasts with a drastic shortage of new talent, which risks erasing a historical legacy of techniques and craftsmanship.
The goal of this initiative—which involves direct collaboration between local institutions and one of the world’s most prestigious luxury houses—is to offer young people concrete career opportunities within a state-of-the-art facility. The educational cornerstone of the project lies precisely in the partnership with the Bvlgari Foundation, whose master artisans will work alongside students, guiding them directly through practical, hands-on learning experiences.

With the opening of these new spaces, the city demonstrates how social inclusion and the preservation of traditional artisanal skills can come together in a single strategic vision for public and industrial growth.
Jean-Christophe Babin, President of the Bvlgari Foundation, spoke about the importance of passing down traditions from one generation to the next:
“The true value of the art of goldsmithing lies not only in the techniques and crafts we have inherited, but in the people who will have the ability to interpret and reinvent them. Training a new generation of talent means giving our savoir-faire a concrete future, transforming tradition into a living heritage capable of evolving and continuing to create beauty. With this project at the Nathan Institute in Rome, the Bvlgari Foundation aims to help build that future by offering young people the opportunity to transform talent, creativity, and passion into a true craft.”
What makes the Nathan Vocational Training Center (CFP) a unique center of excellence on a national level is the presence of the only public goldsmithing workshop in Italy. The facility covers every stage of the manufacturing process through dedicated spaces, ranging from the CAD classroom to the forge, from the workshops for rubber, wax, plaster, and casting to the goldsmith’s benches, and finally to the Agorà, an immersive multimedia space equipped with four large LED walls.

The impact on the local community and the significance of the opening were highlighted by Titti Di Salvo, President of the 9th Municipality:
“The new jewelry workshop—the only public workshop of its kind in Italy—is an extraordinary asset for the community. The new workshop also enhances a high-quality training center and a prestigious building known for its architectural value, which dates back to the 1960s and was designed by architect Moretti. It also represents an opportunity for many young women and men. The enthusiasm evident at today’s inauguration demonstrates that everyone recognizes the importance of this initiative, for which we thank Mayor Roberto Gualtieri and Councilmember Daniele Parrucci—made possible by the exemplary collaboration with the Bvlgari Foundation.”
The project is underpinned by a solid financial framework—a total of 9 million euros mobilized by Roma Capitale for the regeneration of the city’s educational facilities, of which 2.7 million euros—provided by the Metropolitan City—were allocated for the renovation and equipping of the center’s laboratories in the 9th Municipality.

The opening ceremony was attended by the political and operational leaders involved: Roberto Gualtieri, Mayor of Rome and the Metropolitan City; Daniele Parrucci, Councilor for School Construction and Education; Claudia Pratelli, Councilor for Schools, Education, and Employment; Titti Di Salvo, President of the 9th Municipality; Jean-Christophe Babin, President of the Bvlgari Foundation; and Francesca Masanotti, Director of the Center.
Mayor Roberto Gualtieri highlighted the dual educational and social significance of the initiative:
“At the Ernesto Nathan Vocational Training Center, a training model is taking shape that combines the strength of public schools with the expertise of businesses. Thanks to the collaboration with Bvlgari, young people will be able to learn a highly specialized trade, gain direct exposure to the world of work, and help carry on a tradition of craftsmanship that is part of Rome’s history. We are in an area where the school dropout rate is particularly high. This is why vocational training is even more valuable: it must offer concrete, high-quality pathways linked to the world of work, even for those young people at risk of drifting away from traditional educational paths. We have invested 2.7 million euros to build new workshops and renovate the center: we want opportunities like this to be accessible to more and more young people.”

The strategic value of the public-private partnership was also emphasized by Daniele Parrucci, Managing Director for School Construction and Education:
“A concrete investment in the future of students and in the quality of public vocational education. Thanks to our collaboration with the Bvlgari Foundation, we have created modern workshops and training spaces, equipped with professional tools and designed to bring education ever closer to the world of work. The Bvlgari Foundation will contribute directly to the training of our young men and women through the involvement of master goldsmiths and on-the-job training programs. It is a concrete model of collaboration between public education and the business world. Investing in vocational training means offering young people concrete tools to build their own future, combat early school leaving, and strengthen the link between school, training, and work. The Ernesto Nathan Vocational Training Center (CFP) is a concrete example of this approach.”

The political significance of this decision was outlined by Claudia Pratelli, Rome’s Councilor for Education, Training, and Employment, who stated:
“In recent years, we have chosen to invest heavily in the revitalization of vocational training, and the Public Training Hub is the direct result of this decision. Rome has invested 9 million euros in the renovation of training centers, of which 2.7 million were allocated to this vocational training center. This revitalization project is also grounded in a solid partnership with the business community and institutions of excellence: for this reason, I would like to thank the Bvlgari Foundation for its extraordinary commitment, as well as all the stakeholders contributing to this initiative. Vocational training is an educational opportunity on par with all others and must be able to offer qualified, practical skills that are applicable in the workforce. It is a tool for equity, because it combats inequalities, nurtures talent, and opens new opportunities. But it is also a driver of development, essential for supporting major economic and technological transformations. It is a clear policy choice: to invest in facilities, in young people, in the quality of work, and in a growth model guided by the public interest.”
