VIOFF launches the “Golden Road”: exhibitions, workshops, tastings and performances in the heart of Vicenza
The project by Meneghini & Associati was presented in the Sala degli Stucchi at Palazzo Trissino. For three days, Vicenza’s historic city centre will host the off-site programme of Vicenzaoro.
Exhibitions, workshops, tastings, sports, music and performances will bring the “Golden Road” to life, the central theme of the 16th edition of VIOFF, Vicenzaoro’s off-site programme, once again strengthening the close relationship between the international jewellery event and its host city.
An experiential route will wind through streets, squares, museums, artisan workshops and local businesses, bringing the culture of gold beyond the exhibition district and into the heart of Vicenza.
The project, curated by Meneghini & Associati, was presented in the Sala degli Stucchi at Palazzo Trissino by Mayor Giacomo Possamai, Councillor for Major Events Leone Zilio, IEG Global Exhibition Manager Jewellery & Fashion Matteo Farsura, and Natascia Piscopo, Project Manager at Meneghini & Associati.
“VIOFF Golden Road makes the connection between Vicenzaoro and the city visible,” said Mayor Giacomo Possamai. “The route guides visitors and residents through the historic centre, creating an ideal thread linking Vicenza’s goldsmithing tradition with the city’s most iconic landmarks.” It is also, the mayor added, a way “to create a dialogue between an event of international importance and the city’s artistic and cultural heritage,” transforming the historic centre into “a vibrant space” and making Vicenza “increasingly attractive, open and a leading destination for high-quality events.”
The official poster for this year’s edition was created by Jacopo Rosati, an Italian illustrator and graphic designer. VIOFF will dedicate an open-air exhibition to his work in Piazza Castello on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, featuring a selection of pieces combining collage and vector illustration.
The story of gold will continue at the Jewellery Museum, which will remain exceptionally open until 9.30 pm on Friday 4 September. On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, from 9 am to 6 pm, the section dedicated to coral will host the interactive experience “MAC³ – The Routes of Coral”, developed in collaboration with MAC³, a phygital museum dedicated to coral and cameos. Using a headset, visitors will be able to embark on a virtual journey through the peoples and cultures that have worked with this material over the centuries.
“With VIOFF Golden Road, the story of gold leaves the exhibition district and becomes intertwined with the squares, historic buildings and businesses of the city centre,” said Councillor Leone Zilio. The aim is to attract new visitor flows and strengthen Vicenza’s position as “an international destination where goldsmithing tradition and innovation, culture and hospitality form part of a single identity,” while generating positive benefits for the local area.
The Golden Road will also feature a route designed for children and families. Golden Jump will transform Piazza San Lorenzo and Corso Palladio into a trail of large hopscotch-style games painted on the ground by Vicenza-based creative duo 2Bros Creative, Luca and Andrea, inspired by traditional pavement games. Piazza San Lorenzo will also welcome ZugàTolando, the travelling play centre created by Riccardo Brunello, featuring handmade games built from wood and recycled materials.
For Matteo Farsura, IEG Global Exhibition Manager Jewellery & Fashion, the off-site programme is the natural continuation of a relationship spanning more than seventy years: “Vicenzaoro is a story of relationships that connects the trade fair with the city, bringing the world of jewellery together with the culture, creativity and traditions of the local area.”
The Golden Road also serves as a metaphor for this journey: “It reminds us where we started and tells the story of how far we have come, but above all, it looks ahead to the road still before us: new connections, new ideas and new opportunities to explore together.”
Partnerships with Vicenza’s business organisations and associations will help extend the programme throughout the city. Confcommercio Vicenza will involve shops, restaurants and businesses across the historic centre, while Confartigianato Imprese Vicenza, together with VI.ART, will offer the guided tour “All Roads Start from Thebes.”
“Once again this year, we are wholeheartedly supporting VIOFF because the mix of exhibitions, initiatives and events that characterises Vicenzaoro’s off-site programme has the ability to showcase and enhance the city,” said Nicola Piccolo, President of Confcommercio Vicenza. The historic centre, he added, is ready to welcome industry professionals, tourists and residents with “a high-quality retail and food-and-wine offering,” complementing the scheduled events with shopping, themed aperitifs and dining experiences.
The local area will also tell its story through its flavours. In collaboration with Coldiretti, Piazza San Lorenzo will host the Golden Breakfast, alongside the Golden Aperitif and the Golden Market – The Food Routes, held at the Campagna Amica Covered Market and featuring locally produced honey, cured meats, cheeses, beer and wine.
Emporio Carli, meanwhile, will dedicate three days to the culture of olive oil, offering free tastings that invite visitors to discover its aromas, nuances and food pairings.
“Promoting the worlds of goldsmithing, art, culture and innovation is one of the cornerstones of our association,” concluded Emiliano Vettore, President of the Vicenza branch of Confartigianato Imprese. VI.ART tours will therefore guide visitors through Palladian monuments and selected artisan workshops, businesses that “continue to play an important role in keeping the city’s economic and productive fabric alive.”
The curtain will come down on the 16th edition on Sunday 6 September with a celebration of music and movement. BailaConTodos will bring Golden Dance to Piazza Castello and Piazza dei Signori, with performances and dance sessions open to the public.
