Altagamma-Bain 2026 Monitor: Jewelry Continues to Drive the Personal Luxury Market; AI Influences Nearly Half of Luxury Purchases

Jewelry stands out as one of the most resilient and best-performing categories in the luxury sector, according to the 2026 update of the Altagamma-Bain Worldwide Luxury Market Monitor, presented today in Milan.

The report portrays an industry that, despite facing geopolitical instability, economic volatility, and increasingly selective consumer demand, continues to show positive prospects. Bain forecasts global luxury market growth of between 0% and 2% in 2026, while the personal luxury goods segment is expected to expand by 2% to 4%, reaching an estimated value of €365 billion to €373 billion.

Within this landscape, jewelry remains one of the strongest segments of personal luxury. The category continues to benefit from favorable structural dynamics and, unlike other luxury sectors that are more exposed to shifts in fashion and consumer preferences, jewelry retains its appeal thanks to exceptional craftsmanship, the rarity of its materials, and the symbolic value of its creations. These qualities have become even more significant as consumers increasingly seek authenticity, meaning, and products designed to last.

According to Bain, the market is undergoing a profound transformation. Rather than returning to the rapid growth rates of the past, the industry is entering a new paradigm in which luxury is increasingly chosen for the personal and emotional value it conveys.

“The real question is whether brands are building the AI-native relevance and meaning needed to stand out and be chosen when that moment arrives. Discovery, evaluation, and purchasing decisions are increasingly mediated by artificial intelligence, and already today one in two luxury consumers uses AI during their purchasing journey,” said Claudia D’Arpizio and Federica Levato, Senior Partners at Bain & Company and authors of the report.

Artificial intelligence is set to reshape the jewelry market as well. Around half of luxury consumers already rely on AI tools throughout their purchasing journey, and nearly all expect to continue doing so, making it essential for brands to establish a strong presence across these emerging discovery and customer engagement channels.

For Giovanna Vitelli, President of Altagamma, the luxury sector remains a strategic asset for the Italian economy:

“Altagamma companies contribute three times more to GDP growth, generate five times more employment, and pay, on average, 300 times more in taxes than the average company. Supporting the growth of the luxury sector also means preserving and passing on Italy’s Made in Italy manufacturing heritage.”

The findings of the Monitor send an encouraging signal. As the market increasingly favors authentic, long-lasting products rich in cultural value, these qualities continue to represent a decisive competitive advantage—particularly for the jewelry industry, where craftsmanship, heritage, and enduring value remain at the heart of consumer demand.
