Jewellery & Gem ASIA Hong Kong: Profiled Buyers and High-Value Content Drive the 2026 Edition

The challenging global environment has not slowed down the jewellery industry, which gathered in Hong Kong for the traditional summer edition of Jewellery & Gem ASIA (JGA). The presence of industry professionals from more than 100 countries and qualified buyers with clearly defined sourcing objectives confirmed both the sector’s resilience and the show’s role as Asia’s leading B2B marketplace for jewellery.

Highlighting this was Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs at Informa Markets Jewellery, who stated: “Despite the external pressures affecting the industry worldwide, JGA attracted qualified buyers who were highly focused on targeted purchasing. Several exhibitors told us that they had fewer meetings compared to previous editions, but the conversations were more meaningful and involved buyers who knew exactly what they were looking for.”

Asian participation was particularly noteworthy, with significant increases in visitor numbers from the Philippines (+5.6%), India (+2.16%), Thailand (+6%), and Cambodia (+52%). Major markets outside Asia were also well represented, including Europe, North America, the Middle East, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand.

The event welcomed nearly 24,000 unique buyers and around 1,100 exhibitors to Hong Kong, drawn not only by business opportunities but also by a rich programme of conferences, panels, and seminars. Among the most attended sessions was “Winning Strategies for Natural Diamond Jewellery in ASEAN+ Markets,” organised by Informa Markets in collaboration with the Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, China Limited (DFHK).

Another highly popular session was “Winning Hearts with Colour: Designing Coloured Gemstone Jewellery that Buyers Will Love,” which provided practical insights into creating coloured gemstone jewellery aligned with market preferences.

The Gemmological Association of Hong Kong Limited (GAHK) offered an in-depth exploration of the fascinating phenomenon of gemstone colour change through its seminar “Unravelling the Magical Colour-Change Effects of Gemstones.” Meanwhile, the “Japan Pearl Seminar – History, Quality and Sustainability” examined quality standards, market trends, and sustainability initiatives within Japan’s pearl industry.

In particular, Ryuichiro Machizawa of the Japan Pearl Promotion Society and Yumiko Ijichi of the Japan Pearl Exporters’ Association shared valuable insights into the evolution of pearl quality standards, current market dynamics, and the sustainability strategies driving innovation in Japan’s Akoya pearl farming sector.

“This is exactly the kind of efficient and productive business environment we aim to create,” Lau added, referring to the event’s programme of seminars and professional networking opportunities.

The Gender-Fluid Coloured Gem Jewellery Design Challenge, aimed at both students and professional designers, also attracted considerable attention. The competition saw strong public engagement, with visitors invited to vote throughout the exhibition. Anticipation is now building for the announcement of the winners, scheduled for July. The awards ceremony will take place during JGW on 16 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
